Pet-Friendly Furnished Rentals in Houston: What to Know
Bringing the dog matters. Here's how we place guests with pets into Houston furnished rentals — and the specific amenities worth looking for.
Last updated
Most of our long-stay guests bring a pet. Leaving the dog at home for two months isn't a real option, and reputable furnished-rental operators should accommodate you. Here's how we think about it.
Pet-friendly doesn't mean pet-indifferent
A "pet-friendly" listing on a generic booking site can still mean a 4th-floor walk-up with no outdoor space and a one-line disclaimer that accepts pets. A good pet-friendly furnished rental looks different:
- Fenced yard, or immediate access to a dog-friendly park.
- Ground-floor or elevator access.
- Hard-surface floors in the main living area.
- A working entry light and covered entry.
- Neighborhood sidewalks.
Our Casa Luna, a 4-bedroom Bellaire home, and Villa Sorrento, our flagship 5-bedroom Medical Center villa, are both dog-friendly picks — and every Houston Extended Stay property welcomes pets.
Best Houston neighborhoods for a long stay with a dog
The Heights
Tree-lined streets, sidewalks, and the Heights Hike-and-Bike Trail. Easy dog walks from almost any rental address.
Memorial
Closer to Terry Hershey Park — miles of shaded trails.
River Oaks & Upper Kirby
Sidewalks, neighborhood parks, and the Buffalo Bayou trail system a short walk away.
Montrose & Museum District
Walkable, energetic, with Hermann Park and the bayou trails within reach.
Energy Corridor
Terry Hershey Park runs right through it — arguably Houston's best urban dog trail system.
What about cats?
Cats are easier. Most of our rentals accept cats without a question. Confirm per listing.
The logistics
Pet fees
Expect a one-time pet fee of $150–$350 per pet on a 30+ night stay, and sometimes a monthly add-on for larger animals. This covers the deeper cleaning required when you move out.
Breed restrictions
Some insurance policies require restrictions. We try to work around them whenever possible — tell us about your specific dog up front and we'll match you to a home whose insurance accepts them.
Veterinary care
BluePearl Pet Hospital and VERGI 24/7 Animal Emergency are 24-hour options. Most neighborhoods also have a strong mix of primary-care vets.
Dog walkers & boarding
Rover, Wag, and local services like Urban Tails are widely available. Many buildings in the Galleria and Downtown also have partnered dog-walking services.
Quality-of-life tips for pet stays
- Bring your own bowls. Dogs are calmer with familiar gear.
- Ship dog food. Most brands ship to a Houston rental address in 1–2 days — saves luggage.
- Walk the block on day one. Dogs need to map the new territory.
- Crate the first night. Even dogs that don't usually crate benefit on night one of a new home.
